What actually matters when choosing

a wedding photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer can feel overwhelming, especially when there are so many styles, price points, and personalities out there. After photographing weddings, I’ve learned that the things couples think matter most aren’t always what actually makes the biggest difference.

How your photographer makes you feel

You’re with your photographer more than almost everyone on your wedding day. A photographer with calm, grounded energy will help you relax - and comfort matters far more than perfect posing.

Consistency over highlight reels

Instagram shows the best moments, but knowing how your full gallery will turn out is a huge part of choosing the right photographer. Ask to see full galleries in different lighting situations; think indoor ceremonies, dark receptions, or timelines that ran late. That’s where real consistency shows.

Style that matches your story

Your wedding and vision are reflected in the story told within your pictures. Does the editing style match your vibe? Do you want your photos to feel emotional and candid, or more posed and formal?

Experience and guidance

Your photographer is more than a vendor, they’re one of the people guiding the flow of your entire day. Working with a photographer you trust helps your day feel less stressful and everything to flow more naturally.

Connection and trust

Connecting with your photographer personally and artistically will help you be the most comfortable around the camera on your wedding day. The best photos happen when you stop thinking about the camera. Make sure that your personalities vibe with each other and you feel like you can communicate with your photographer about anything and everything!

What DOESN’T matter as much

Trendy poses and viral videos don’t always reflect real experience. Don’t base someone’s credibility on follower count or their ability to recreate one Pinterest photo perfectly.

At the end of the day, your wedding photos are one of the few things that last long after the day is over. Choose someone whose work you love - but also someone you trust to guide you, calm you, and help you feel fully present in the moment!

If you’re looking for a photographer who values connection and storytelling just as much as beautiful images, I’d love to chat!
